“War” is a song sang by Edwin Starr, a black American singer and songwriter who lived between 1942 and 2003. This song was written in 1970 and it has been the most successful song from this singer. It talks about war, referring to the Vietnam War, by saying lots of quotes like: “It ain't nothin but a heartbreaker/Friend only to the undertaker”. This song has been sung by many different bands as The Temptations, Bruce Springsteen …
I chose this song because I wanted something that I previously didn’t know by looking back at the 60’s and 70’s, and anything related to war but that made a social criticism to the conflicts. I like it because the lyrics are quite simple and easy to understand and it gives a clear message: war isn’t good for anybody.
