Buildings among ruins, without vegetation. Death everywhere. A winner and a loser. Can you imagine living in constant fear, thinking that at some point you may lose your life? Why does war exist if everyone loses?

Joe Rosenthal took the photo on February 23, 1945. That six US marines placed their country’s flag the highest hill on the island of Iwo Jima. In the foreground of the picture, we see 6 men placing a US flag on top of a hill on the island of Iwo Jima in Suribachi, Japan. They must be sailors dressed in military uniform, armed with shotguns, and protected by helmets. It seems that they have won a battle, they are Americans, and they were fighting in Japanese territory. In the waving flag we can see seven stripes of darker colour, six of lighter color. At the top left we can see a rectangle that has stars. On the sides you can see stakes, leaves, branches, rocks, explosives, fire, weapons, rubble, ... In the background on the left is a hill and, on the right, the Pacific Ocean.

War is a waste of time; it is a useless situation where many people lose the lives of loved ones. Why don’t we make a world without wars? And as I said Carl P.G von Clausewitz: “Many countries see war as an easy solution to their problems, a solution that will undoubtedly be very expensive.”
